grilling with microgreens

Savvy grillers know that preparing the perfect meal on the grill is all about the ingredients. From the seasoning, to the quality of the meat, to the topping or side – if everything is of high quality, then the flavor will pop even more.

This summer, more grillers than ever (some in the backyard, some in five star restaurants) turned to the power of microgreens to spruce up their dishes.

Dubbed one of 2008s culinary buzzwords by National Public Radio, microgreens are a popular food trend. Used by chefs to stimulate and enhance the dining experience, microgreens infuse taste and innovation to their culinary creations.

And ever since then, professional and amateur chefs alike have been discovering new and creative ways to implement these tasty greens into their luxurious cuisine. If you are just now discovering microgreens for the first time, here are some recipes to help you fit these amazing greens into dishes you cook on the regular.

Spruce Up Steak & Potatoes

It is the staple of most American dinners – the classic steak and potatoes. Whether your potatoes are mashed, diced, baked or sautéed, rest assured that microgreens can help spruce up your dish. If you want to give your potatoes a little extra kick, try adding some Micro Mustard Horseradish or Micro Radish Ruby for a spicy and aromatic boost to your dish. Right before the steak is pulled off the grill, sprinkle on some Micro Mint Lavender or Micro Basil Nutmeg leaves to give the steak a unique, flavorful twist. Microgreens can be incorporated with nearly any dish, so let’s move on from traditional and lets get fancy.

More Fiesta in your Fish Tacos

Fish tacos are an ocean favorite, but all too often, wind up as a missed opportunity for additional flavor.Fish tacos can be made with just about any kind of fish, but what are you going to top them with? The same old cabbage? Start thinking differently with these unique petite and micro greens.

Petite Iceplant adds a refreshing and citrusy flavor, perfect for pairing with seafood.

Petite Licorice Mix gives off subtle hints of anise in addition to a flavorful boost to the fish

A Petite Primavera Mix would include just greens (no herbs) and would make a lovely filler for your fish tacos

Grilled Chicken Salad

Grilled Chicken Salad is a popular dish for so many reasons. It is healthy, flavorful, and pretty easy to make. But if you ever found yourself wanting a viable complement for lettuce, consider a flavorful mix of micro or petite greens. Give your flavorful chicken a worthy bed of greens upon which to lay with a microgreen mix. This mix will not replace the lettuce of your salad, but rather complement it with bold flavors and a light, springy crunch. Your dinner guests will all want to know why your grilled chicken salad is so much better than yours – will you let them know your secret ingredient?
